Earlier this week, the HookLogic team sponsored and attended the 2013 Rakuten Expo East, held at the exciting Marriot Marquis in Times Square. The Expo featured a full day of information, education and discussion about the Rakuten Shopping Marketplace.
The event featured a great selection of talks across a variety of topics, including an eye-opening keynote address from Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani. During this address, Mikitani gave a detailed history of the Rakuten Shopping Marketplace as well as the exciting plans it has for the future. Key points from the talk include:
• A staggering 90% of Japanese internet users hold a Rakuten account.
• Rakuten has ecommerce markets in 13 countries, while doing business in 25.
• A growing number of US retailers are partnering with Rakuten Shopping as it builds on the initial success of the Buy.com website, which it purchased in 2010.
The Expo was also the perfect opportunity for the HookLogic team to chat with sellers face-to-face about the benefits of Retail Search Exchange. Back at the HookLogic booth, the team showed Rakuten retail merchants how Retail Search Exchange places their products higher in search results, in front of millions of active shoppers on Rakuten.com, as well as across a network of other retailers that sell their products, such as Newegg.com.
